Religious Education
Religious Education is at the heart of life at St Patrick’s Catholic School, Taumarunui, and underpins all that we do as a faith community. Our programme is shaped by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops’ Conference curriculum, Tō Tātou Whakapono – Our Faith, and supports the spiritual, moral, and cultural growth of our tamariki.
Through engagement with Catholic beliefs, Scripture, and tradition, ākonga are supported to deepen their understanding of faith and to make meaningful links between their learning, their lived experiences, and the wider world. Prayer, liturgy, and the celebration of the Sacraments are integral to daily school
life, providing regular opportunities for children to encounter Christ and to develop their personal relationship with God.
We recognise and affirm the diverse cultural identities within our school community. Te ao Māori is honoured alongside other cultural perspectives, enriching our Religious Education programme and strengthening students’ sense of belonging. In doing so, we nurture faith-filled learners who act with respect and compassion and who live out our school values of Faith – Whakapono, Hope – Tūmanako, Love – Aroha, and Service – Manaakitanga, as they are encouraged to serve others in the spirit of Christ.
Our Religious Education curriculum is structured around the following key themes:
